2000 Upper Deck SP Authentic Football

It almost seems crazy, but with all of the super short print rookie cards, rookie autograph cards, rookie jersey cards, and even rookie autographed jersey cards, I wasn't sure if the hobby would give any respect to this season's SP Authentic even though it has been the hottest product of the past couple years.  When Upper Deck decided to jump the season with Pros & Prospects rookie cards numbered to just 1000 we wondered what that would leave for SP Authentic.

2000 UD SP Authentic Joe Namath Autographed Game Jersey Greats
In a series that is usually dominated by numbered rookie cards and
autographs this Autographed Joe Namath Jersey was a nice find.

The amazing thing is that collectors and investors alike still go for SP Authentic.   Sure the rookie cards are numbered to a "high" of 1250, but it's the clean, cool style and history of SP that makes people buy.  Just looking at the latest price guide will show you the respect card fanatics have for Authentic.  The SP Authentic rookies of Randy Moss, Peyton Manning, and Edgerrin James are great examples of why people buy SP even without the gimmicks of jersey card inserts and memorabilia style rookie cards.  The inserts in SP Authentic are easy to find and won't hold value, but it's really the rookies that make it worth the $5-6 per pack most dealers are asking.  The Joe Namath Autographed Game Jersey Greats card is also a nice inclusion although only 175 were produced, but every box has at least one autographed card so even if you miss the Namath you could pull a great autograph.
