This week we're going to take a break on my usual long winded writings about sportscards and our hobby in general. Instead I've gathered up some interesting cards for you to look at tracing some of the history of sportscards and the Olympic Games. I won't try to dazzle you with my knowledge of Olympic cards, but when possible I'll add some comments. One thing I have noticed is that considering how big the games seem to be every four years, it's amazing the limited number of sportscard sets that have been dedicated to these athletes. If it weren't for the USA Basketball "Dream Teams" there would be no major sets produced for wide release this Olympic year.

1925 Dominion Chocolates This rare 1925 Canadian Olympic card was produced by Dominion Chocolates as part of a set that celebrated the 1924 summer and winter Olympians. Keeping with Canada's tradition the majority of the cards in the set were hockey players. |
1936 Ogdens Cigarettes This Ogdens Cigarettes Champions of 1936 Jesse Owens card was found on Ebay recently in amazing shape for a 64 year old card. A quick search of the auction sites will show that Owens is one of the more popular former Olympians showing up on cards all the way up to 1996. |

1970's Sportscaster Cards Sportscaster cards which came in small sets released during the late 1970's were not really Olympic cards, but with over 2000 athletes covered it was inevitable that many of them competed in the games. |
